Wedding

As a religious congregation that is officially recognised by the Danish authorities, Shir Hatzafon is able to perform legally valid wedding ceremonies.

Shir Hatzafon offers two types of wedding ceremony. Common to all wedding ceremonies conducted by Shir Hatzafon is that they are planned in close cooperation with the couple whose requests we try to meet as far as possible.

When the marriage is between two Jews, we can offer a Jewish ceremony with a Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract) and Chuppah (Jewish wedding canopy).

If the marriage is between a Jew and non-Jew, a Ketubah will not be sign and a Chuppah will not be used, as these elements have a meaning only when the marriage is between two Jews.

The popular tradition of crushing a glass can take place in both cases. Shir Hatzafon cannot play any role in marriage ceremonies where other religions are involved. Ceremonies cannot take place on Shabbat and other Jewish holidays.

Please note that the couple must be members of Shir Hatzafon. Expenses in connection with the ceremony are met by the couple.
